First Grade
Welcome to First Grade at Westpark Elementary School! We look forward to an exciting and productive year. During the first few weeks, we emphasize getting to know each other, the setting of standards and a review of academics. The first month is an adjustment time for first graders due to the extended length of the school day. A good night’s sleep and a nutritious breakfast are both very important.
Every week a student will be chosen to be “Special Me”. A poster to complete, as well as a letter explaining what your child may bring in for his/her special week will be sent home. The children have a snack recess at 10:05 a.m. We recommend a nutritious snack be sent such as fruit, crackers, cheese - NO CANDY please. Snack is also available for purchase. Please have their snack separate from their lunch and put it in a plastic baggie so that it can be thrown away when they are finished. We recommend putting all food in a zip locked baggie due to ant problems.Be sure to label all of your child’s belongings - lunch boxes, backpacks, and sweaters. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us.Thank you!
