The prime goal of the Irvine Unified School district is to assist students in
developing high degree of self-direction and personal responsibility. To this end, high
school students with written parent permission may leave the high school campus during the
lunch hour.
Neither the School District nor any officer or employee thereof shall be liable for
the conduct or safety of any pupil during such times as the pupil has left the school
grounds.
Students without parent permission must remain on campus.
Adherence to this policy will be monitored by staff spot checks, police, merchants and
community reports.
This policy shall remain in effect so long as the Board of Education is satisfied that
the privilege is being responsibly handled by the students involved.
