LEAST RESTRICTIVE ENVIRONMENT SPECIAL EDUCATION

BOARD POLICY - 6172

Individuals with exceptional needs are educated according to their unique needs in compliance with the least restrictive environment philosophy. Special assistance is offered to individuals with exceptional needs in appropriate settings which promote maximum integration with the general school population. The least restrictive environment is determined according to the individual's level of functioning in the areas of cognition, social adaptations, prevocational career skills, psychomotor, and self-help skills commensurate with the non-handicapped population.
