Alternative Uniform Complaint Policy (Education Code 3518)

GENERAL SCHOOL PROCEDURES

Office Hours
The school office is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Attendance Procedures
The school maintains an attendance line 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The number is (949) 936-5601. Please call this numver before 9:00 a.m. to report each day that your child is absent. Please make sure that your child is temperature free for at least 24 hours before returning to school.
Tardy Procedures

If your child arrives at school any time after the morning bell, he/she must report to the front office to sign in and take a tardy pass.

Research clearly shows that students who attend school regularly and arrive punctually perform better. If your child develops an attendance or tardy problem, you will be notified, and we will follow District and State procedures. IUSD, in conjunction with the Irvine Police Department and other agencies, operates a School Attendance Review Board. This group monitors attendance and tardy patterns and works with schools and parents to improve student attendance.

School Clerk Check Out

If your student must leave school during the day to attend an appointment, you must sign the child out in the office. When you arrive at school, we will call the classroom to send the child to the office. A sign-out book is maintained in the front office.

Visitors to School

If you are coming to school to volunteer or attend a meeting, please sign in at the front office and obtain a visitor's badge. Please sign out when you leave. While this may appear to be an inconvenience, these procedures are for the protection of all students at school.

Lunch Procedures and Food at School

Irvine Unified School District offers a hot lunch program for students. Each child has been assigned a four or five digit personal identification number that will remain with the child throughout his/her Irvine school career. Parents are asked to deposit funds in the child’s account either electronically or by sending a check to school with your child. We do not handle cash in the lunch room. Lunch is available daily for $2.85 including milk. A form to apply for a free or reduced lunch for families who qualify is being sent home with this informational brochure. They are available in the office throughout the year.

•   Option 1:  Send a check to the school office made payable to IUSD Food Services. We collect those checks each morning and they are entered in the system before lunch begins. You may make the check out for any amount. If you do not know your child’s lunch ID number, clearly write their name and teacher’s name on the envelope.

•   Option 2:  Go to IUSD website - http://www.iusd.org.
Click on “Business Services” on left hand side of screen and then select “Food Services.” Follow the instructions and select the appropriate link.

If your child forgets lunch, you may drop off his/her lunch in the office no later than 11:15 a.m. and label it with the student's full name and the student's teacher's name. Late lunches are delivered to the lunch tables. Please remind your child to check the late lunch basket. In an effort to minimize classroom disruptions, we will not interrupt the classroom to deliver forgotten items.

If your child brings a lunch from home, please remember to label the lunch boxes and containers so they are not lost.  Students are encouraged to eat breakfast before school and bring a healthy snack for the morning recess break.

Telephone Usage by Students/Messages

Each classroom has an outside telephone line for teacher use and increased campus communication and safety. Students are not to use the classroom phone, or the office phones, without the permission of an adult. We do not allow students to make non-urgent calls (i.e. "May I go to my friend's house after school?”)

In addition, we strive to keep classroom interruptions to a minimum and are not able to deliver non-urgent messages to classrooms.  Please make certain your child is aware of after-school plans before arriving at school for the day.  Please make a plan for rainy day dismissals.  Parents may choose to allow their child to store a cell phone in a backpack while on campus.  The cell phone should remain off and out of site throughout the school day.  Students are only allowed to use cell phones outside after school.
