Grade Level News Winter Semester

Please return the Jog-a-thon permission slip to your child’s teacher!  Our Jog-a-thon is March 14th from10:40-11:00am.  Please come out and cheer on your child.  He/she has been working hard to practice during P.E. the last few weeks!

April 6th will be our Kindergarten Spring Hat Parade.  All students will come as Early Birds that day from 8:20-11:40am.  We wanted to give you plenty of time to make any necessary arrangements.  Thank you!

Curriculum News

This semester we will:

• Learn the letters Dd, Zz, Xx,  Ww, and  Yy,

• Learn the high frequency words “for” “have” “play” and “she”

• Review our Alphafriends

• Read stories with short o and short e words

• Worked on writing 3 thoughts in journals:  First, Next, Last

• Continue working with Teen Numbers

• Continue working with 5-groups

• Begin our new math unit on partners 2-6 and teen numbers as 10’s and 1’s

• Continue the “Our Country” unit in social studies

• Explore Hyperstudio technology on the computer and begin our technology project

• Finish working on our wood unit in science

• Practiced for the Jog-a-thon by running

Extra! Extra!

Read books each night and practice fluency.  It should sound like you are talking when you read.  Make sure your child is reading the words and does not have the book memorized.  You can check by telling them that they will read it a “silly way”.  The “silly way” is to select pages out of order and have them read the page.  You are working on accuracy and fluency.

Remember to use your best printing on your homework.  Use pencilfor writing and colored pencils or crayons for coloring. Continue to read the books that are sent home each week.  Find words that are the same from one page to the next.  Try to read them without sounding them out.
