Bathroom and Play Time - 8:20-8:35
-
Work on self-help skills of toileting, washing and drying hands. Play time works on socialization skills, cooperative play, language, sharing.
Calendar Time - 8:35-9:00
- "Good Morning" song - work on greeting one another, sitting in circle, taking turns.
- Attendance - work on matching picture with name. Learning names of those in the class. Concept of who is here and who is not here. Counting the number of students. Subtracting number of students absent from total number in class. Taking attendance to office works on independence skills - taking messages to others around the school and learning names of significant people around the school.
- Calendar time - works on numerical sequencing, days of the week, months of the year, taking turns putting up days and numbers.
- Weather - works on language and turn-taking.
- Flag salute - works on taking turns (holding flag), memorization skills and "reading" of the Pledge of Allegiance. Singing of "Yankee Doodle". Children take turns passing out/picking up flags, learn to sit and wait while flags are being passed out.
- "How many days have we been in school?" - children work on counting straws and matching numerals. They work on the concept of place value (ones, tens, hundreds).
Work Sessions - 9:00-10:00

1:1 Time - children work 1:1 with adult on specific IEP goals and objectives as well as beginning reading skills, math skills, comprehension skills. Any sensory integration needs as addressed at this time such as joint-compression and brushing depending on the needs of the individual student.

Small group time - children work on fine motor activities such as handwriting and cutting with at least one other student and adult. They also work on turn taking and working cooperatively.

Independent work - done at the child's desk. The children work on already learned activities while following a visual schedule that answers the questions of "What work do I have to do?", "How much work do I have to do?", "How will I know when I am finished?" and "What do I do next?". This teaches the child independence in a work situation.
Snack - 10:00-10:20
- During snack time children work on self-help skills of setting the table, eating, and cleaning up. The speech and language specialist and/or the teacher work on language skills such as requesting and commenting. Socialization is taking place as children learn how to eat in a situation with others present.
Recess - 10:20-10:40
- The students play on the playground with typical peers and work on socialization skills, cooperative play, requesting friends to play with them, waiting until it is their turn on the swings or bikes. These skills are facilitated by our three classroom instructional assistants.
Work Sessions II - 10:40-11:40
- See above. During this time, OT, APE and speech are also rotated into the schedule.
Singing Speech - 11:40-12:10
- The speech and language specialist and/or classroom teacher work on speech and language skills through music. The children work on turn taking, sitting in a circle and attending, following hand movements, and listening skills.
Lunch and Lunch Recess - 12:10-12:55
- The children eat lunch at the lunch tables with typical peers. They learn how to go to the cafeteria and use lunch tickets to purchase their lunch. They have to opportunity to choose from a variety of foods. The children learn to throw away their trash and leave the tables clean as well as working on eating skills. Again, they are at recess with typical peers where the socialization skills are facilitated by our three instructional assistants.
Cool Down - 12:55-1:10
- This time is used for sensory integration appropriate to the needs of the individual child. It is done in the classroom with the teacher and instructional assistants with help from the Occupational Therapist working with the students.
Integration into General Ed. Classes - 1:15-1:45
- During this time many of our students are integrated into general education classrooms with an instructional assistant or teacher. They participate in science, reading centers and PE.
Art, Science, Community, Buddies - 1:45-2:00
- On alternating days, the class participates in an art or science activity. They work on fine motor and
sensory skills during art. During science, they learn about the 5 senses, their bodies, animals, the farm etc.
- Once or twice a week, the class goes on a community outing either which is usually to a local park, Northwood High School or a local shopping center. The children are able to practice their skills of crossing the street and watching for cars as well as being able to learn how to order items at a restaurant etc.
- On Fridays, the students have time with their "buddies" which this year will be from one of the 6th grade classes at our school. These students research autism and come up with activities that meet the needs of our population. They also participate in special events with our students such as making gingerbread houses and field day. These buddies also come into the classroom to help throughout the day
Clean Up and Bus - 2:05-2:15
- During this time, the children work on self-help skills such as cleaning up the room and putting away toys (which also helps teach categorization and sight word skills). The children take their bins out of the cupboard and get themselves ready to go home.

Bathroom and Play Time - 8:10-8:20
- Students independently empty their backpacks, placing daily communication logs, lunches and snacks in appropriate locations. This is followed by free choice/free play time inside the classroom.
Work Sessions - 8:20-10:30
All students participate in a full group Calendar activity working on skills such as counting by 5’s and 10’s, reading the full date, money skills, and listening to a curriculum based story. Students also rotate through the following 30 minute work stations during this time:
- One-on-One instruction: Students receive direct instruction time with a staff member working on their academic goals and objectives.
- Small Group: Students work in groups of 2-3 on previously learned curriculum including money, calendar, time, fine motor, community based instruction and art activities.
- Independent work: During this time, students work independently at their desks reviewing mastered academic tasks.
- Computer/Listening: Students are offered the choice of working on the computer or listening to books on tape during this time.
- On Tuesdays and Thursdays a 30 minute period of Adapted P.E. occurs during one of the rotations.
- On Fridays, a 40 minute rotation of Occupational Therapy Consult occurs in the classroom.
Snack - 10:30-11:15
Snack, recess and walk occur. During recess, our 6th grade peer buddies come daily to socialize and play with our students.
Work Sessions II - 11:15-12:10
- On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays students complete their 4th above mentioned rotations.
- On Mondays our class visits the library. We listen to a participatory story and then check out books. We practice greeting the librarian, waiting in line and using polite language.
- On Wednesdays, we recycle. During this time, the students perform one of four jobs: Emptying the bins of bottles/cans, reading the schedule of which room to pick up from, pulling the wagon of supplies and full bags, or pushing the cart that holds the recyclables.
Classroom Speech - 12:10-12:40
- Classroom Speech and Language services occur 2 days a week on Tuesdays and Fridays. During the remainder of the week, a full group language lesson is led by the teacher.

- Students pack their backpacks and prepare to go home.

Based Instruction
- In addition to this schedule, we also attend all school assemblies, Tuesday Talks morning assembly and field trips with our 5th grade buddies. Bimonthly Community Based Field trips occur as well.
