The Irvine Unified School District Facilities Planning and Construction Department works collectively on a variety of projects for the District. In addition to planning and overseeing the construction of new schools, and modernizing existing schools, the department works diligently with the Education Services Department to establish enrollment projections, making recommendations for new schools, attendance boundary changes, and accommodating growth at existing schools.
IUSD has constructed five new schools in the past five years. Alderwood Basics Plus at Quail Hill, Vista Verde at Turtle Ridge, Woodbury Elementary, Creekside High School Phase I, and the newly opened Stonegate Elementary have been constructed and are fully operational.
Also in the last five years, Greentree, Turtle Rock, College Park, Northwood, Eastshore, Bonita Canyon, Santiago Hills Elementary Schools and Venado Middle School, have benefitted from over $45 million in modernization project completions.
Currently, the District has two new schools planned over the next four years, expansion at three of our existing high schools, and modernization of eight other schools, in addition to a variety of other projects throughout the District.
As part of the department’s Facilities Master Plan, it is the goal of the IUSD Facilities Planning department to achieve the following:
- To identify and analyze information that documents the District’s school facilities needs;
- To plan school facilities which meet the needs of the community and its stakeholders and supports grade level articulation through the school family alignment;
- To create facilities standards throughout the District;
- To establish an ongoing planning process that best positions the District to meet ever-changing facilities needs;
- To communicate the District's facilities needs;
- Pursue all funding alternatives; and
- Incorporate joint use and public use of school facilities where feasible.
