NON-PESTICIDE ALTERNATIVES

 

ANT ELIMINATION WITHOUT PESTICIDE USE

I.     Classrooms and office areas

        A.   Remove food source from tabletops, counters student and teacher desks.
        B.   Empty trash cans daily and replace plastic liners as needed.
        C.   Wash trash cans with soap and water to remove food source and food build-up.
        D.   Wash counters, table tops, student and teacher desks to remove food source and
               food build-up.
        E.    Mop all vinyl floors daily to remove food source and food build-up.
        F.    Vacuum carpets daily where food and food build-up is found.
        G.   Seal all cracks and crevices around doors and windows to eliminate entry.*
        H.   Remove vegetation that is in contact with the building walls.*
         I.    Locate and destroy ant nests.
         J.    Introduce bait stations out of reach of children; in cabinets, behind trash cans,
               behind bookshelves, and in custodial closets.

II.     Outside the building

        A.   Remove food source and eliminate food build-up on outside tables and blacktop area.
        B.   Empty trash cans daily.
        C.   Wash trash cans with soap and water to remove food source and food build-up.
        D.   Pick up trash, wash tables, and hose down grounds to remove food 
               and food build-up.
        E.    Pick up trash around the campus daily.
        F.    Keep area where building walls and asphalt meet dirt and debris free.
        G.   Remove vegetation that is in contact with the building walls.
        H.   Keep dumpster area dirt and debris free, swept clean, with food and food
               build-up removed.
        I.     Follow ant trail away from building/area to where ants enter the ground.  Pour
               hot water down hole.
        J.    Seal cracks and crevices on exterior walls to eliminate entry.*
        K.   Introduce bait stations out of the reach of children; in storage units, electrical rooms,
               HVAC rooms, dumpster areas and custodial closets.

ROACH ELIMINATION WITHOUT PESTICIDE USE

I.     Classrooms, office areas, and restrooms

        A.   Remove food source and build-up from carpet, vinyl floors and trash cans.
        B.   Empty trash cans daily and replace plastic liners as needed.
        C.   Keep floors clean and debris free.
        D.   Store boxes, storage material, card board, and paper off the floor. 
        E.   Discard corrugated card board.
        F.   Do not store food in desks or cabinets.
        G.   Eliminate moisture sources, i.e. any dark areas
        H.   Seal all cracks and crevices on exterior walls to eliminate entry.*
         I.   Seal  where toilets meet the floor.*
         J.   Disinfect around toilets daily.
         K.  Vacuum, using an upright vacuum cleaner, roaches and empty bag in dumpster.
         L.   Since roaches run along baseboards, a crawling insect sticky trap
               placed along walls/baseboards should prove helpful.
        M.   Place roach baits in out-of-the-way areas, i.e. under sinks, behind
               trash cans, behind cabinets, and in custodial closets.
        N.   Remove vegetation in contact with building walls.*

II.    Outside the building

        A.   Empty trash cans daily
        B.   Wash trash cans with soap and water to remove food source and food build-up.
        C.   Pick up trash, wash tables, and hose down grounds to remove food
               and food build-up
        D.   Pick up trash around the campus daily.
        E.    Keep storm and sewer drains debris-free.
        F.    Eliminate moisture sources, i.e. any dark areas.  Roaches gravitate to
               areas like this.*
        G.   Seal cracks and crevices on exterior walls, doors and windows where
               roaches might enter.*
        H.   Keep the area where walls and asphalt meet dirt and debris free.
        I.     Keep the dumpster area dirt and debris free, swept clean, with food and
               food build-up removed.
        J.     Introduce roach baits in outside storage areas, electrical rooms, HVAC 
               rooms, etc.
        K.   Remove vegetation in contact with the building walls.* 

MICE AND RAT ELIMINATION WITHOUT PESTICIDE USE

I.       Classrooms, office areas, and restrooms

                and points where utilities come into the building.*
        G.    Introduce snap and sticky traps.
        H.    Remove vegetation that is in contact with building walls.*

        B.    Wash trash cans with soap and water to remove food source and food build-up.
        C.    Pick up trash, wash tables, and hose down grounds to remove food
                and food build-up.
        D.    Pick up trash around the campus daily.

        F.    Keep the dumpster area dirt and debris free, swept clean, with food and
                food build-up removed.
        G.    Seal cracks and crevices on exterior walls to eliminate entry.*
        H.    Introduce snap traps.

FLEA ELIMINATION

        A.    Wash down all counters and washable surfaces in area where insects are present.
        B.    Vacuum thoroughly everyday for two weeks.
        C.    Deep clean carpets with extraction system.
        D.    Mop vinyl floors with enzyme-type cleaners.

HEAD LICE ELIMINATION

        A.    Wash down all counters and washable surfaces with soap and water.
        B.    Vacuum carpet thoroughly.
        C.    Deep clean carpets with extraction systems.

GNATS AND FRUIT FLIES ELIMINATION

        A.    Empty trash cans daily.
        B.    Wash trash cans with soap and water to remove food source
                and food build-up.
        C.    Remove food source from tabletops, counters, students and teacher desks.
        D.    Wash down all counters and washable surfaces in area where insects are present.
