FAQ's Regarding Transportation
1. Q. Who needs a bus pass?
A.
Any student who qualifies to rides the bus.
2. Q. Why do I have to pay to ride the bus?
A. Because state funding does not pay the entire cost of transporting
students.
3. Q. How do I get a bus pass?
A.
By completing an application and paying for the pass.
4. Q. Where can I get an application for a bus pass?
A. At the Transportation Department, 100 Nightmist, Irvine.
5. Q. What are the hours of Transportation?
A. Monday through Friday, 6:00am to 3:00pm.
6. Q. What does an annual pass cost?
A. Fees start at $370.00 per child, per year but will vary with income.
7. Q. How do I qualify for the reduced rates?
A. Total Family income must be below $20,000.00 per year. The application must be confirmed by pay stubs and tax returns, from the year of application
8. Q. Do I have to buy an annual pass?
A.
No, passes are available for the year or semester.
9. Q. Are there any deadlines for purchasing passes?
A. Yes. 1st Semester……… Ends January 28, 2010
10. Q. What if my child loses or misplaces their pass?
A.
Replacement passes are $7.25 each. No more then 4 replacements will be issued
per year.
11. Q. What if we move or have no further need of busing?
A.
IUSD's refund policy is to refund only if moving out of the district.
12. Q. Are one-way passes available?
A.
Yes, purchased annually for $185.00.
13. Q. What if I only need a pass for one or two days a week?
A.
Sorry daily or weekly passes are not available.
14. Q. Does my children need to carry the bus pass all the time?
A.
Yes,
and it must be legible for the drive to read the stamps on it. Have the pass
replaced if it is not legible. It is very
important to have the pass at all times. If you don't have a pass, no ride!
15. Q. What if we move to another area in Irvine and the stop is different from the one on the pass?
A.
Bring
in the old pass and a new one will be issued, If the child is still eligible to
ride, free of charge. If
the old one is not available then a $2.00 charge is added.
16. Q. What are the ending dates for the semesters?
A.
1/28/10 - 6/23/10.
17. Q. Can bus passes be transferred to another child in the family?
A
No, on the back of the pass it states that all rights are revoked if
transferred.
18. Q. What about rules and regulations for riding the bus
A.
All students riding the bus are required to abide by safety rules set forth by the state.
19. Q. What happens if a student violates the rules?
A. The
Student is denied bus transportation.
20. Q. Are seatbelts required on school buses?
A.
No, but alternative methods of safety must be in effect.
21. Q. Does IUSD or it's contractors have seatbelts on the buses?
A.
Some buses are equipped and some are not.
22. Q. On buses without seatbelts, what safety measures are taken?
A.
"Compartmentalization"
- containing children within a structurally reinforced passenger compartment of fully padded high back
seats and crash barriers.
