Principal's NewsletterJuly 28, 2011Dear Parents and Students,Welcome to the 2011-2012 School Year! I am hopeful that your summer with family and friends has been restful, rejuvenating and filled with wonderful adventures to hold you till our next break!I absolutely love this time in the school year when students arrive to school eager for new experiences; parents are enthusiastic for their child to return to the structure of a school day; and the staff return well rested and excited to begin a new journey with another classroom of learners. It is clearly a time of new beginnings, hope and excited anticipation of all that can be for the year to come!And…what an exciting year we have ahead! ECLC is entering its tenth school year as an Early Childhood Learning Center and I believe that each of those ten years has been a year of change and evolution bringing us to where we are today. We have been engaged in an ongoing process of bringing diverse programs together in an effort to provide an excellent continuum of programming that meets the needs of all Irvine preschool students and their families. This past year, staff has been involved in a restructuring process to improve service delivery to meet the needs of all preschool learners. Specifically, we have restructured programming to meet the needs of students with special needs specific to Autism; we have implemented our “First Steps” diagnostic classroom to improve our ability to gather meaningful assessment information about students; we have adopted a site-wide curriculum – Scholastic Big Day for Pre-K; and our Administrative team has been restructured to improve overall program support. As part of the Administrative restructuring, please welcome Sandy Avzaradel as our new Assistant Principal. Sandy brings with her a wealth of experience in preschool, kindergarten, parent education and staff development and will be an invaluable resource to our staff and families (me too!). We are excited to have her join our team!For the 2011-2012 school year, we will also continue to focus on the following initiatives at ECLC:
This year, my goal is to publish quarterly newsletters (in October, January, and April) to keep you updated on the happenings at ECLC. These newsletters will be available to you on our NEW website at www.iusd.org/eclc Please be sure to visit our site regularly to find information about ECLC and upcoming events!We have just finished our first year with PTA (Parent Teacher Association). Please look for information throughout the year regarding ways to participate and get involved at ECLC. The first week of school the PTA will be selling our ECLC t-shirts in front of the school. Please stop by to learn more about PTA and pick up a t-shirt for your child to wear to school each Spirit Day Monday!
