WEST NILE VIRUS

West Nile Virus (WNV) activity is very high in Orange County this year and Orange County has already had more cases so far ths season than in any year since 2004. We urge all Orange County residents to take precautions to avoid mosquito bites.

With school starting and athletic practices resuming in the late afternoon and early evenings, students, their families and staff may be outdoors during prime mosquito biting times.

Although the risk of severe infection is increased in persons over the age 50 years or with certain medical conditions; several counties, inlcuding Orange County, have already reported WNV cases including serious illness in children this season. Please see the attached information.
