Irvine Unified School District

General Health and Emergency Information

At the beginning of each school year, health and emergency forms are sent home with students. This is your opportunity to update us on any significant changes in your child's health, to alert us to any potential health problems with your child's health, and to furnish us with information that could be critical in an emergency situation. Please make sure that any emergency numbers you give us belong to people who are usually home and willing to take responsibility for your child.

Hand Washing

The best way to avoid getting a cold or the flu is to maintain a healthy lifestyle with plenty of sleep and exercise, balanced with nutritious eating habits. Good washing is also important, and is now accepted as the single most important procedure for preventing the spread of contagious disease. Irvine Unified District students are encouraged to wash their hands thoroughly and often, especially before meals and after using the restroom.

Herbicide and Pesticide Use

In order to maintain the highest standards of health and safety and environmental integrity, the Irvine Unified School District will notify parents 3 days prior to the application of herbicides/pesticides at the school sites, Upon request, a notification letter may be obtained at the district office. This is in response to the increasing sensitivity to the potentially harmful effect of herbicides/pesticides on children who are exposed to those chemicals on school grounds.
