“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not.”
–Dr. Seuss
Teaching Science at College Park Elementary is SO much fun! My goal as an Elementary Science Specialist is to foster an unending LOVE FOR SCIENCE in my students that they will carry with them throughout their educations and into their careers. I truly believe that my students will be the ones to make the big, necessary changes our world needs, in the future.
In addition to our super fun science labs, I will be focusing our curriculum around real world experiences and issues. I want my students to take the roles of advocates for environmental issues, and to start making changes locally in the ways we think about pollution, trash and energy. This is especially appropriate for our fourth and fifth grades’ curriculum. As for sixth grade, I am continuing my efforts to make Science Fair a rewarding, useful experience. I would like to achieve this by encouraging my sixth graders to really take on the role of “scientists.” I would also like them to think “outside of the box” in regards to the topics they choose, and strive for topics that impact our planet.
As part of my effort to foster a LOVE FOR SCIENCE, my classroom’s theme is SCIENCE G.E.E.K.S. The acronym standards for: Genuinely Eager and Enthusiastic Kids of Science. This is truly how I hope my students feel about my class, and I hope they are all proud to be Science Geeks.
I am always looking for new and exciting ideas to include in my classroom. If you as a Parent/ Guardian or Community Member feel you have something wonderful to share or would like to volunteer time, please let me know.
To all of you who I already know, I look forward to seeing you again, and to all of you I have not yet met, I cannot wait to get to know you! Until then, stay GEEKY!
