Vicky Anthony - Westpark

Vicky AnthonyVicky Anthony joined the science specialist team in 2004 and could not be more excited to teach hands on science in Irvine.  Her love of science began early in the backyard of her childhood home.  There she would be happy mucking about in a summer garden, caring for baby mockingbirds, or finding ways to transport her favorite toad to kindergarten for a day of fun.  Annual family camping trips to Yosemite National Park expanded her fascination with the natural world as she learned about the geologic history of those awe-inspiring granite walls.  Vicky continued her investigations in science as a biology major at the University of California – Santa Cruz, where she relished field trips to the Elkhorn Slough to learn more about the fascinating habitat of strange organisms such as the Urechis (aka the fat innkeeper worm)! At the University of Wisconsin – Madison  she received her B.S. in Biology and Science Education after exploring the intriguing glacial history of the region and comparing the anatomy of vertebrates ranging from shark to cat.

Vicky has taught science full and part time for nearly 20 years.  Her favorite part of the day is watching the students try to control their glee as they “play” with stream tables, create ooblek, and generally make a mess as they learn scientific concepts.  There is a pond teeming with life on her property awaiting scientific study and she invites students to explore this unusual environment!
