High School Open Enrollment Options for Fall 2007

Though each of the district's high schools enroll students primarily from their assigned attendance area, the district does have an open enrollment policy.  Unfortunately, because each of our high schools is at or near capacity, open enrollment for this year is limited to the following options:

Sibling Enrollment
Younger sibling of students who are currently enrolled in or formerly attended the preferred school will be approved under the district's open enrollment policy providing the 9th grade student resides in the IUSD attendance area.

One-for-One Exchange Among Incoming Ninth Grade Students from Waiting List
For incoming 9th grade students, the Board of Education provides for a one-for-one exchange between any pair of schools that are closed to each other.  The one-for-one exchange is based on a drawing that takes place after the school choice card due date.  This process creates an ordered interest list of 9th graders at each high school.  The one-for-one exchange option is available for students from Irvine, Northwood , and Woodbridge High Schools. Interest is expressed by submitting to the desired school a School Choice Request form by noon on February 24, 2012. University High School is closed to students outside its attendance area for the 2012-13 school year.

No other open enrollment options are envisioned at this time.  However, in the event the spring revised enrollment projections indicate additional space at any one of the high schools, open enrollment might be made available on a limited basis.  Such determination will be made not later than 30 days after the deadline. Any additional seats available through this potential open enrollment option will be filled from remaining names on that school's one-for-one exchange list.

Requests for open enrollment received after the deadline are placed on a first-come, first-served basis.  For each pair of high schools, one-for-one exchanges are approved up to the number of students on the shorter of the two lists.  All students on the waiting list will receive notification by the end of March, 2012.

Students wishing to pursue any of these open enrollment options must submit their request prior to noon on February 24, 2012.  School choice cards are to be returned to the administrator listed below at the school in which you prefer to enroll.  (If you have already submitted such a request, you need not submit a duplicate form.)  For additional information on open enrollment, see the Enrollment page of the IUSD website
