MIDDLE SCHOOL DANCE

Dance has limited offerings in the Middle Schools with classes offered through physical education and limited classes in cultural dance. The cultural dance classes include exposure to a variety of folk and cultural dances, square dancing, line dancing, and also draws on the strengths and/or cultural background of participants.

HIGH SCHOOL DANCE

Each of the comprehensive high schools offer classes in dance from beginning to the advanced levels. The classes emphasize basic dance techniques used in jazz, ballet, and modern dance. Basic theory of choreography is taught through group and individual dance projects and improvisation performed in class. The upper level classes emphasize more advanced techniques used in jazz, ballet, and modern dance. The study of choreography continues with more involved and complete dance projects and improvisations performed in class.

The dance classes culminate each year in dance performances at each of the schools which demonstrate the students' progress through the year. Many of our dance students earn scholarships and go on as dance majors in college.

We are fortunate to have a talented and dedicated dance instructor at each high school who frequently participates in the choreography of the musicals that are presented at the high schools.

The accessibility of different instrumental music classes vary by school.
