DRAMA

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DRAMA

There is no district coordinated drama program.  However, various schools do put on their own dramatic productions.  Many of these are offered through a peer coaching arrangement set-up through the local high school.

MIDDLE SCHOOL DRAMA

The majority of Middle Schools offer classes in drama and musical theatre. In musical theatre, students participate in acting, singing, and dancing, as well as costuming and prop building. The drama classes explore theatre arts, including improvisation, mime, stage presence, vocal projection, costume design, script writing and performance.

The drama and musical theatre productions are of the highest quality and have been recognized by the Orange County Department of Education with the " Superintendent's Award" on several occasions.

HIGH SCHOOL THEATRE

Classes in theatre are offered at each of the District's three comprehensive high schools. Courses are offered from a beginning to advanced level. These classes introduce the beginning students to the many aspects of Theatre Arts: Play analysis, scene preparation, action, direction, and line memorization. In the upper level classes, the students will refine and expand the development of their acting skills and participate in the directing and acting in school performances.

The Irvine Unified School Districts theatre productions are well known for their quality and maturity throughout the County. They have received Macy's and Orange County Department of Education awards and acclaim for excellence in musical theatre.

The high school theatre teachers are involved in numerous projects at local colleges and community theatres. They are well known for their ability to create wonderful productions while developing the talents and gifts of their students.

The accessibility of different instrumental music classes vary by school.
