ELEMENTARY ART

In art, students in grades K-6 receive a one-hour art lesson once every six weeks, which is provided by the district's skilled and talented art specialists. Lessons are based upon the Irvine Unified School District Art Matrix Plan. Listed in detail are areas of art education each student is to have learned grades K though 6. Sample lessons include contour drawing, negative space, visual awareness and paintings by the masters.

Our students' artwork is displayed in shows throughout the County such as: "Color It Orange", "The Imagination Celebration", " Laguna Festival of the Arts", and "Young Masters". IUSD elementary art work has the largest representation in County art shows of any school district. Art from the district has been used on several occasions for the Imagination Celebration Poster for all of Orange County. Student art work has been selected for national recognition for the National Foundation for the Improvement of Education.

Many of the art specialists are active, professional artists with work in private and corporate collections.
