CONGRATULATIONS

Astounding Inventions Blue Ribbon Winner

MICHAELA C. (4th grade)

Eleven students from Greentree Elementary were chosen by the Science Specialist, Mrs. Garza, to participate in the "Astounding Inventions" competition on Saturday, January 28th at Irvine Valley College.

We are pleased to announce that our Division Winner was Michaela C., 4th grade student in Mrs. Walsh's room. Her project, "The Jacket Bag" was created so that people do not have to carry around their jacket or tie it around their waist when they get hot. The jacket turns inside out into a bag that you wear over your shoulder so you are hands-free!

Four Greentree students won the Red Ribbon for “Outstanding Inventor.”

Dua S. (3rd grade) – "Cyclocharger”

Eissa A. (4th grade) – “Temper Controller”

Kalen H. (4th grade) – “Trash Out Arm”

Nicholas M. (5th grade) – “Cup Scan”

Six Greentree students won the White Ribbon for ”Honorable Mention”

Rio M. (1st grade ) – "Dog Advent Calendar”

Sarah A. (2nd grade) – “Magic Glove”

Dylan V. (4th grade) – "Automatic Toilet Cleaner”

Greentree's Teacher of the Year,

Yvonne Vedell

YV

We are proud and excited to announce that Yvonne Vedell, this year’s

2nd /3rd combo classroom teacher, has been selected as Greentree’s

2011-2012 Teacher of the Year!

Prior to joining the Greentree staff in 1989, Yvonne attended UCI and completed her internship in IUSD at El Camino Real teaching 1st grade under the guidance of principal/motivational speaker, Gene Bedley.

Yvonne has been a 1st, 2nd, and twice a 2nd /3rd combo teacher at Greentree.  Through the years, she has served as values committee leader, PTA liaison, SST Coordinator, member of the leadership team, science site rep, member of the social committee, Constitution Day organizer, Primary Language Arts rep, as well as a master teacher for interns and student teachers.

On a district level, Yvonne served as a district trainer/facilitator for the Scholastic Language Arts series, and she has been a member of several text book adoption committees.

In her free time, Yvonne enjoys spending time with her husband and their three sons.  She loves to snorkel in Hawaii, plays tennis, plays WWF, and attends her boys’ baseball and hockey games.  Yvonne likes going to dinner with friends and when time allows enjoys watching some of her favorite reality TV shows.

Mrs. Vedell will be also honored at the

Annual Teacher of the Year Banquet in May!
