MEDIA TECHNICIAN II
DEFINITION
Under general supervision, perform basic and complex
clerical and technical tasks in library or computer work; assist
students and staff in learning to use the library and computers in
classroom and labs; and perform related work as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Adherence to District
Technological Resource Policies and Procedures

Handles and supervises the circulation procedures including,
preparing overdue notices, previewing materials, keeping records
of equipment loans and returns
-
Assists staff in locating and preparing learning packets for
student use
-
Assists students and staff with library and computer skills and
conducts training sessions for both
-
Types letters, reports, invoices, requisitions, cards, lists and
other materials from copy, draft and machine recordings
-
Maintains accurate files and inventories of textbooks, library
books, audiovisual hardware, computers, and computer software
-
Keeps circulation records and makes reports
-
Backs up library data on regular intervals as needed
-
Maintains an accurate up-to-date computer circulation/cataloguing
system
-
Reviewing, selecting, ordering and processing library materials,
and computer software, inline with state standards
- Train and supervise
student assistants and
parent volunteers
-
Operates computer and supervises use of computer by students
-
Performs minor repairs on library, computer or audiovisual
materials
-
Assists in the preparation of displays, learning centers,
instructional packets and bulletin boards.
- Processes library and
computer materials with suitable property markings, jacketing,
packaging and storing
- Assists in maintaining the
library/computer lab in a neat, clean and attractive manner
- Assists in preparation of
software for student and staff use
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
Knowledge of:

Basic office procedures

Correct English usage, spelling and penmanship

Library media concepts and vocabulary
-
Basic principles of classification of materials
- The computer and its
operating systems
- Word, PowerPoint, Excel,
Internet and a variety of other programs that teachers may request
for use with their class
- Current technology, software
applications, and computer operation
- A variety of audio visual
equipment
- Software upgrading and
loading
Ability to:

Perform clerical work using independent judgment

Think logically and analyze logical processes

Apply specific rules and procedures used in a library/computer lab
setting

Operate standard office machines; and a variety of audiovisual
equipment

Program and operate computer and assist others in usage

Make minor repairs to a variety of audiovisual equipment and
textbooks

Understand and carry out oral and written instructions

Maintain cooperative working relationships in the course of work

Type at a net corrected speed of 40 words per minute
- Use and teach a variety of
computer programs as needed
- Perform basic troubleshooting
of hardware and software
- Work with secondary age
students
Training and experience:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade;
supplemented by course work in library, media or curriculum; two
years of library or media experience including computer training
and/or experience; experience in an educational setting preferred;
or any combination of training and experience that could likely
provide the desired knowledge and abilities.
