February is upon us! We have a busy month ahead at Meadow Park and look forward to seeing you at Open House. Please note the important dates below:

Colonial Day:

Colonial Day is Thursday, March 8th! The fifth grade teachers have been making preparations and are looking forward to this special day. Specific information will be sent home with students over the next few weeks.

Here is an update of what we are currently studying in 5th Grade:

In Language Arts, we are focusing on theme 3, “Voices of the Revolution.” Students are applying reading strategies as they learn about the historical events surrounding the Revolutionary War. Fifth graders are currently beginning their first persuasive writing essay. We are wrapping up unit 3 in math which has covered fractions. Students will be assessed during the week of February 6-10th. In Social Studies, students have begun their study of the Colonial Era. They are looking forward to simulating the “Colonial Life” on March 8th. Finally, fifth graders will be finishing their study of weather and will be assessed during the week of February 14-17th. At that time, we will begin investigating the Solar System. Students will have the opportunity to complete optional extension projects in this area.
