We are looking pretty good for now!

Please make sure that you scroll all the way to the bottom of our website each time you visit. We always update all areas and new information is often at the bottom!

News and Updates

February has two special days that are celebrated in Kindergarten! Please watch for special Valentine's and 100's Day homework and deadlines!

There are several children coming to school coughing, sneezing, etc...We are having more illnesses. Please observe our 24 hour fever free (with no medication) and vomit free school rule. Sometimes one day of complete rest at home can do wonders!

Later Gator New Line Up Procedure

Thank you Later Gator Parents for helping us with our new line up procedure. However, in order to ensure the safety of all children in line, we are asking parents to keep their eyes on their child at all times and help them stand in line, hands and bodies to themselves.

Remember that the start of the line has been changed from the classroom door to the end of the window. At no time should any child be standing in front of the window or classroom door.

Getting Ready for First Grade!

We are working with your children to become more independent in the classroom and outside. One way to encourage independence is to have them unpack and hang up their own backpacks. We still want parents to oversee this and monitor taking care of their own belongings. Please make sure that your child takes out needed items (book bags, library books, notes, homework folders, etc...) and hangs up jackets and sweaters.

Dates to Remember

Monday, February 13 - No School - Lincoln Holiday

Monday, February 20 - No School - Washington Holiday

Tuesday, February 21 - 100th Day of School

Thursday, February 23 - Open House - times to be announced

Homework

Your February reading log comes home next week. Please continue to enjoy reading aloud to your child everyday! February reading logs are due on Thursday, March 1st. Thanks for developing the love of reading with your child.

Everyday High Frequency Words

Each week we introduce and practice a new word to use in our journal writing. We also look for these words in books and other printed material. So far we have learned the word "I", "the", "see", and "a", "my", "like", "to", "and", "is", "go", "have", "said", "come", " with", "are", "this". New words for this month include: here, now, what, for

Literacy Ideas for Support at Home

We have started sending home books read in RTI reading groups. These books come home each week in a ziplock bag with your child's name on it. Thank you for reading the books with your children, filling out the parent slip and returning school books and slips the next day. Please note whether your slip says to keep the book at home (yellow) or return it to school (green).

This month your child will bring home a short /i/ word list. As these lists come home in the future, please have your child practice reading these words as fluently as possible.

Have fun reading to your child and playing alphabet games! Practice singing the alphabet song! Practice reading the everyday words on the inside of your monthly journals coming home! Practice finding the words in other books. You can make flashcards, too! And, don't forget to read "Jack-o-Faces", "My Color Book", "My Earth Book" ! Practice reading any word family wheels that come home, too! Look for a "Winter Colors" book to come home this month! It will be a great addition to your home book collection!

Math Ideas for Support at Home

We continue to build and write addition fact combinations (2+3=5). Please practice oral addition and subtraction story problems up to the number 10. These story problems can involve household objects such as items needed to set the table. You might try using math words such as more, fewer, most, fewest, same and equal.

Have fun building puzzles and playing number and counting games. We have learned to make AB, AAB, ABB and ABC math patterns. Have your child practice this at home and make up other patterns. Use small items like buttons or coins or cereal to practice patterns. Please practice number writing to 20. Your child has learned to sort by color, size, and shape. You can practice this at home, too. Please have your child practice reading numbers 1- 31 OUT OF ORDER. Students can also practice counting at least 30 objects, one at a time.

Our PTA is absolutely amazing and supportive of our school and all the teachers and students! If you did not get a chance to join PTA earlier this year, you may join at any time! PTA looks forward to including you as a member!

Please send in your collected box tops in a ziplock bag marked with your child's name and your teacher's name. Boxtops need to be at school by February 17th. Thank you to families that participate in Restaurant nights.

Meadow Park Foundation: The Meadow Park Foundation raises money to enhance our children's education through technology. They meet the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm. Please visit their website at www.meadowparkfoundation.org to learn how you can get involved and help our school!

Arrival Procedure

  • Please arrive 5 minutes before class begins
  • Hang backpack and take out snack/lunch
  • Hold any papers/books to turn in that day
  • Sit on the wall quietly
  • Playground is off limits due to no supervision
  • Tardy students must check in at the office before coming to class

A student is considered tardy if they do NOT walk in with the rest of the class. Even if the door is open, you will be asked to take your child to the office to receive a tardy slip before entering class. Just a reminder that this is a school policy.

SCHOOL RULE = No children or parents are allowed in the classroom without a teacher present - even if it is raining outside! This is a school-wide safety rule.

Rainy Days= The doors will not be open until 8:00 am, so plan your arrival accordingly. After school, please meet your child at our classroom door facing the big playground.

PLAYGROUND RULE = The kindergarten play area is off limits to students and siblings during the hours of 7:55 - 3:00 unless they are supervised by a teacher. Please use the play area behind the pool if you are waiting for your kindergartener or older sibling.

Fridays are spirit wear days! Please wear blue and green or a Meadow Park shirt from a sibling! Meadow Park shirts for this school year will go on sale later this fall! Students receive ROPES coupons for wearing spirit wear/colors on Friday.

All year long students participate in a school-wide ROPES (Respect, Oneself, Property, Each other, School) behavior incentive program. Students may earn ROPES coupons for displaying positive examples of respectful behavior. As students earn 5 ROPES coupons, they may take them to the office and get their picture taken for our school wall. Once a month our principal will draw some names for a prize. The more ROPES coupons they receive, they better their chances of receiving a prize!
