School Site Council

School Site Council (SSC) is a very important representative group of parents and staff from Meadow Park School. Each School Improvement Plan school has a council which oversees the process and the expenditure of school improvement funds. The School Improvement Plan is a step-by-step process individual schools use for solving local educational problems. Its goal is to provide a thorough and continuing analysis and improvement of the school program. Parents, teachers, school administrators and others work together to plan, implement, and evaluate plan changes. Special funds are allocated by the state Legislature to support the improvement process.

School Improvement is based on the idea that those most affected by decisions should play a significant part in making them. Parents and school staff members on the Council share responsibilities and have equal voices in council business.

Council members are elected by their peers: parents elect parents and teachers elect teachers. Ideally, the School Improvement process extends an invitation to additional parents and staff members, encouraging participation by the entire school community.

In order to maintain consistent implementation and evaluation of planned improvements, the members of the SSC monitor specific plan activities each month. In preparation for district/state reviews, monitoring teams, composed of parents and teachers, visit classrooms and interview teachers to determine how the plan is being implemented, and then report to the council.
