Meadow Park Guidelines for the selection of music
have been established to maintain a multi-cultural/ethnically
diverse program that is sound, historically accurate, and
respectful for all of our Meadow Park students. These guidelines
are set forth below.
Use a cultural and aesthetic emphasis
based on the established grade level or course curriculum
when presenting or teaching holiday music.
Create opportunities to present a variety
of music and traditions.
No theological philosophy is discussed.
Religious music may be presented, but not
in a religious context.
Use secular music freely.
Use sensitivity and common sense in the
selection of music. Within our pluralistic community
school, stress the diversity of religious beliefs and
practices in our society as historical and traditional
activities.
The staff will determine the
appropriateness of music presented or studied and must be
especially sensitive to the words of music chosen so as
not to promote or discourage religion as stated in the
California State Framework for Visual and Performing
Arts.
