Eighteen years ago I was thrilled to be chosen as a founding member of Meadow Park Elementary School. What a wonderful time I’ve had watching my kindergarten and first grade students learn and grow through the years. A passion for teaching reading led to my involvement in literacy work at the District Office and has afforded me the opportunity to share a contract with many talented partners. This year, I am sharing a contract in Kindergarten with Dawn Venz. Dawn teaches Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and I finish off the week teaching Thursday and Friday. On my days “off” from Meadow Park, I coordinate a reading intervention program. Kindergarten/First Grade Reading Intervention Model is currently practiced at 18 other Irvine Elementary schools. As a result, my days away from Meadow Park are spent traveling from school to school, assisting in the implementation of EIRM. I graduated from UCLA 31 years ago with a BA and Masters in Education. With a few years off for child rearing, I have been in the classroom for over 26 years. Speaking of children, my husband Mark and I have plenty! My oldest, Jimmy, graduated from UCSB and has his first real job in San Francisco – what an incredible feeling to watch your child enter the “real” world with a “real” job and “real” benefits! Our 22-year-old daughter, Julie, is a senior at UCSB. Our 19-year-old son, Johnny will be starting his freshman year at UCLA this fall, and our youngest daughter, Jenna, is a 5th grader at Eastshore Elementary. We are a very family oriented group with most of our spare time spent attending each others’ sporting events. I keep myself sane and stable by making sure I exercise, socialize with and enjoy my wonderful friends and family! |
