Dear Plaza Vista Families,

Welcome back to school! We hope you enjoyed your winter break and that you and your family had time to rest and relax!

Above please find the latest edition of the Plaza Vista Principal’s Newsletter. I also wanted to take the time to congratulate our Plaza Vista Teacher of the Year, Miss Susan Oshiro! Miss Oshiro has been at Plaza Vista since we opened our doors in 1999. She started as a first grade teacher, but quickly found her niche in kindergarten. Miss Oshiro loves working at Plaza Vista School because “everyone – students, parents and staff – has a passion for learning and creating a Plaza Vista family of learners!”

Also to be congratulated: Miss Danielle DeFrank, our science specialist, was selected as IUSD’s Science Specialist Teacher of the Year by her peers. Miss DeFrank teaches our fourth and fifth grade students in her science lab, providing them with hands-on experiences and lots of fun! Her favorite thing about teaching at Plaza Vista? “The expected chemical reactions and the unexpected chemical reactions!” says Miss DeFrank.

And last but certainly not least, Ms. Erica Turrell was selected by her IUSD peers as the Visual and Performing Arts Teacher of the Year! Ms. Turrell teaches vocal music to our 4th-8th grade students and has helped to develop vocal music curriculum for the entire district. She states that her favorite thing about teaching at Plaza Vista is that everyone here is so friendly and supportive.

There aren’t many schools that can boast three Teachers of the Year in one school year! What an accomplishment for all three of these educators. Congratulations ladies! And Happy New Year to all of our Plaza Vista students, parents and staff!
