Swine Flu Update

The Irvine Unified School District continues to monitor reports related to the outbreak of the H1N1 Influenza virus, commonly referred to as swine flu.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, H1N1 Influenza is a respiratory disease that regularly causes outbreaks of influenza among pigs. The virus does not normally infect humans, but infections do occur and can be transmitted person-to-person. Its symptoms are similar to those associated with the regular human flu and can include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue.

To minimize the chance of transmitting this virus and other illnesses, students are advised to wash their hands frequently with soap and water, cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze and remain at home if they are sick.
