Kindergarten Newsletter

Language/Science
-We reviewed the vowels “i” and “u”. We practiced reading words that have the short vowels and long vowels in them.
-We worked on high frequency words for the week-I, see, my, like, a. to, and, go, is, here, for, have, said, the, play, she, are, he (new word) Students need to read these by sight and to spell these correctly.
-We read the story Feathers for Lunch. We worked on comparing and contrasting.
-We continued work on our unit in Science-Land Forms. We are working on a “book”. The land forms are ocean, plains, desert, valleys, mountains, rivers, lakes and ice caps. We discuss each land form and what lives in them. This will take several days to complete and review.
Whole Group Activities
-In math, we continued working on the concept of subtraction. We practiced subtraction using manipulatives. Some of us worked on writing our own subtraction problems.
-We are continuing our unit on money. We are counting dimes and adding pennies to a nickel. We discussed what each coin’s value is. All students need to name the coins and values.
-We have computer time in the lab with Mrs. Haxby.
We went to our school library this week. Ms. Chisholm’s class-return on Mondays
Ms. Holly’s class-return on Tuesdays, Mrs. Goto’s class-return on Wednesdays.
English Language Development (Mrs. Goto’s English Language Learners) Vocabulary-Land Forms -oceans, plains, desert, valleys, mountains, rivers, lakes and ice caps.
Coin names and values
Homework (except for sharing, practice and monthly homework, the homework is due the following Tuesday)
- free Sharing –for the week of May 21st. You may bring any one object from home to share. No toy weapons please.
- Language-write a sentence for each of these 5 high frequency words-are, play, the, she, he-due Tuesday, May 22nd
Centennial Farm field trip permission slips are due now (If a student does not have this completed and turned in, he/she will not be able to go on the field trip).
- Wednesday, May 23rd-Centennial Farm field trip-Later Gators will be on the Early Bird schedule 8-11:20
- REMEMBER- Bring
Snack in a plastic/paper bag labeled with your child’s name and a drink in a disposable container. These will go in the trash at the farm.
Wear closed-toe shoes-like tennis shoes.-no sandals. It is a working farm-lots of dirt
- No school-Friday, May 25th and Monday, May 28th due to the Memorial Day Holiday
