In other activities throughout the unit, children continue partner work for partners 2 through 6 and practice visualizing teen numbers as a ten and extra ones. In social studies this year we will cover 6 units about Our World, Now and Long Ago (Harcourt - Reflections):
* Being a Good Citizen
* My Country
* Workers
* Where We Live
* Time Goes By
* Stories of the Past
Our next unit will be "Workers," in which we will discuss community helpers.
Over the course of the year we will discuss various topics including safety, proper diet and exercise, good hygiene, going to the doctor, and generally keeping our bodies safe and healthy. We use The Great Body Shop to aide us in teaching these lessons.
In our current unit we are discussing how to stay clean and healthy. We are reviewing the importance of good hygiene, and talking about how dentists and doctors help us to stay healthy.
Wood
Our current unit is about Wood. Our previous Trees unit has given us a nice introduction to wood and it's uses. During this unit we will review the uses of wood, talk about it's production into household items, and do hands on experiments to help students understand the properties of wood. We will observe different types of wood from different trees, test the buoyancy of wood, and change the shape of wood with sandpaper. This it a fun unit for the students, so be sure to ask them all about it!
Please see the web site below for more information on our current unit:

We will have 3 science units this year: Trees, Wood, & Animals 2x2. During each unit we will use our senses and hands-on activities to help us observe and explore these topics.
